Five Polytechnics in Ghana cannot be converted into technical universities for now as envisaged by the government. The institutions failed to meet the criteria required for the transformation.

The Desk Officer for Universities and Polytechnics at the National Counsel for Tertiary Education of Ghana, Mr. Evan Kwabena Takyi uncovered this when a designation from the German Academic Exchange Service went to Koforidua Polytechnic. The visit was to get to the school's readiness level to be changed into a Technical University.

Despite the fact that Mr. Takyi would not name these Polytechnics, he implied that Koforidua Poly can't be one. The establishment did greatly well in the evaluation, he noted.

He said, government expect to redesign them after the German structures of Technical Universities and School of Applied Science to produce graduates with employable and entrepreneurial aptitudes.

He included that, the visit by the German designation is the first stage in the change process.

Minister of the Koforidua Polytechnic Professor (Mrs.) Smile Gavua Dzisi said they have confirmed all the administration criteria set for the change. The school will require a reassessment if Koforidua Poly is excluded in the qualified schools.

The Koforidua Polytechnic has six undeniable B. Tech programs in Science and Technology as against government necessity of four, she said.
