Father Defiles Daughter, 17

A 46-year-old father, Robert Mintah, has been arrested by the police for allegedly defiling his own daughter aged 17. The suspect was arrested at Tarkoradi in the Western Region and later transferred to the Kasoa Divisional Police Command – Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) – under which jurisdiction the alleged act of incest was committed. Mintah was said to have committed the act at the Buduburam Refugee Camp in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region. He allegedly started taking undue advantage of his own daughter a year after the demise of his wife (the victim’s mother). Briefing the media on the issue, the Kasoa DOVVSU Commander, DSP Florence Annaman, stated that Mintah slept with his own daughter for about three years and that he in the process succeeded in impregnating the girl twice, and caused two abortions. As a result of the abortions, she disclosed, the victim, who narrated her ordeal to her uncle at Tarkoradi, had had an infection and had been referred to the hospital for medical attention. DSP Annaman gave the assurance that the law would deal with the suspect, advising fathers to desist from the act of having sexual intercourse with their own daughters. She also urged all men to stop lusting for underaged girls for sexual pleasure.
