The Akosombo Police have arrested two persons in connection with the interception of 168 parcels of suspected Indian hemp.
The parcels had been concealed in four boxes and were being carted in a taxi with registration number AS 665 – W.
The
suspects, Henry Ikechukwo, a Nigerian, 24, and Yaw Agyei, the driver of
the cab, were arrested at Kpong in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality
by personnel of the Akosombo Motor Traffic and Transport Department
(MTTD).

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Divisional
Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Mr Ohene
Bosompem, said on January 5, 2016 at about 7:30 a.m., the MTTD personnel
stopped a taxi being driven by Agyei with Ikechukwo as the only
passenger in the car.
He said when the police were questioning the driver about the items on board, Ikechukwo quickly opened the door and bolted.
He said with the help of residents, he was arrested.

Bosompem said when the four boxes were opened at the police station,
168 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were found.
He said Ikechukwo allegedly claimed ownership of the boxes when he was questioned.
He said the suspects would soon be put before court.
