FIFA President Sepp Blatter has
congratulated Ashantigold FC on winning the First Capital Plus Premier
League, describing the Club’s success as an "exceptional performance".
“A
team victory is a wonderful occasion and an opportunity to draw
satisfaction from a job well done. Please pass on my own personal
congratulations, along with those of the whole football family to
Ashantigold SC on their exceptional performance, Blatter said in a
letter sent to GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi.
“I know that behind
this success are belief and effort of everyone involved. This is a true
team victory, and all or you deserve to share in the accolades: the
players and coach of course, but also the technical and medical staff
and, not least, the loyal fans”.
“Football is proving more than
ever that it can transcend traditional boundaries to become a real
driver of development. It enables players at all levels to develop their
individual skills, tactical understanding and personal dynamism, all
the while strengthening team spirit”, he added.
“Football truly
is a school for life and I am convinced that everyone, and in particular
the young people of today, can benefit from playing football on both a
social and personal level. That is why I urge them all in Ashantigold SC
to continue their work, leading the way on this path of success.”
Football
is helping to build a better future and I wish to thank Ashantigold SC
for playing their part in this”, the FIFA Boss concluded.
Ashantigold
clinched their 4th Ghana Premier League title after beating WAFA 1-0 in
their last but one game of the season played at the Obuasi Stadium on
last Sunday.
The Miners had to wait 19 years to win the title after they last won the Ghanaian topflight league in 1996.
