The deputy ranking member of the judicial committee of Ghana’s
parliament has condemned the undercover investigations by ace
investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas into corrupt activities by
some individuals and institutions in the country.
Hon. Frank Agyen, who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Effiduase
Asorkor in the Asante Region, stated that Anas is running the country
down with his investigations.
He questioned if Anas Aremeyaw Anas is a BNI, CID or the National
Security for him to be allowed to undertake such investigation.
In an interview with the Accra/London based Rainbow Radio 87.5fm, the
judicial committee member expressed his dislike for Anas’ work in Ghana,
saying the investigative journalist is being allowed to destroy the
country. Hon. Frank Agyen told host Kwame Tutu that the judiciary is an
important democratic institution which cannot be allowed to be
humiliated by certain individuals.
He expressed worry at how the office of the Chief Justice, Georgina Theodora Woode, has so far handled the issue.
He is of the view that the Chief Justice should not have let the expose come public but should have dealt with it secretly.
According to him, the rights of the judges have been trampled upon as they have not yet been given a fair hearing.
